The following statement was circulated by the Central Committee of Communist Unity for May Day, 2026.

‘May Day 1890-1990’, Trades Hall, Melbourne, 6 May 1990

On International Workers Day 2026, the Central Committee of Communist Unity sends its fraternal greetings to the communist movement of the world, and the struggling toilers on every continent. Today, with the world imperialist system unleashing terror and starvation in every corner of the world, and with the liberal world order in crisis, the international proletariat must more than ever realise its historical task and fight to realise it. Our organisation, the product of the fusion of the Revolutionary Communist Organisation and the Spartacist League/Australia, today takes up the banner of communist unity, and announces to the whole world that communism lives!

In particular, we send our fraternal greetings to our comrades in the growing partyist trend in international Marxism – to Britain, the United States, Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, Poland, and Germany. It is time that our tendency takes up its own banner, and raises itself beyond our limited national battles. There is no communist work without a definitive international pole for coordination and international propaganda, without a struggle to reforge a communist international.

In turn, we send our greetings to the comrades of the socialist workers movement of the Asia-Pacific. To our comrades in Indonesia, in the Phillipines, in Nepal and India, and in Aotearoa. The workers of our region share a common enemy – ANZAC imperialism, Japanese imperialism, US imperialism, and the transnational ruling class – and a common destiny. Today more than ever, we look beyond the limits of our national borders and see the narrow path to a shared freedom – an international union of the working class, leading the toiling masses of Asia in a revolutionary struggle against the capitalist world system, and for a commonwealth of toilers – a socialist federation in Asia and the Pacific.

Our movement is emerging from the long twilight at the end of the 20th Century. Communism is being reborn today on the streets of Europe and Africa, and in the trade union halls of Asia and the Americas. Today it is possible to once again imagine reforging the communist international – a definitive centre of international proletarian socialism. Such an international cannot be reforged on a narrow, sectarian basis. Instead, it must be forged by the coming together of the advanced communist forces in each country, and across national boundaries.

Today, we take up the slogan of The Leninist faction of the Communist Party of Great Britain, that became the Provisional Central Committee: Communism Lives!

It is this banner that we will take into every meeting hall and demonstration in this country. It is this banner that we will take into the Socialist Party, and into the trade unions, and into the social movements. It is this banner that we will raise, that calls forth our comrades in every country.

Reforge Marxism! Reforge the Communist Party! Reforge the Communist International!

For Democracy, Peace, and Socialism!

Communist Unity – Central Committee
